A homage to my mother, Mary, which challenges common portrayals of cancer. This film began as a joint effort, between myself and Mary. Mary believed that living with cancer is a unique journey, one that is specific to every individual. However, during the filming process, Mary’s health severely deteriorated. Determined to make her point, Mary agreed to be filmed for the final days of her life, encouraging me to finish the film after she died.
Mary Lost Her Battle was produced by New Creatives North, which is supported by Arts Council England and BBC Arts. It was premiered on BBC4 and made available on iPlayer.
